Responsible Organizations (Resp Orgs) access the SMS/800 to reserve toll-free numbers for their customers and to set up routing information for the numbers.
Most of the Resp Orgs are telecommunications companies. However, any person, company, or organization that can demonstrate the required skills and financial responsibility can apply to be a Resp Org.
Resp Org access to the SMS/800 is a service provided under a tariff on file with the Federal Communications Commission. The Tariff covers the terms of service and rates for service. If you are ready to apply for access to the SMS/800, you can start with the forms available on the Website or by calling the SMS/800 Help Desk at 888-SMS-3300, Option 1.
The application process consists of three main steps:
1. Fill out and submit the Service Establishment Form.
2. Send your deposit to the SMS/800 Help Desk.
3. Pass the certification test.
