FREE WBA DEMONSTRATIONS OFFERED - All SMS/800 users are invited to participate in upcoming online WBA training sessions. Each month the SMS/800 Help Desk plans to offer two free tutorials on setting up and using SMS/800 Web Based Access. The next session is scheduled for Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Central. DECLINING DEMAND IMPACTS TARIFF RATES - The SMS/800 Management Team has filed updated tariff rates with the Federal Communications Commission. In their filing, scheduled to become effective November 30, 2002, the Bell Operating Companies (BOCs) propose changes to Tariff F.C.C. No. 1, 800 Service Management System (SMS/800) Functions (SMS/800 Tariff) to update rates and charges based on current cost and demand data. This adjustment is needed because of the continuing, unforeseen decrease in demand for toll-free numbers, and the anticipated increase in operating expenses (bad debt) for services provided to bankrupt Responsible Organizations. ...(More)

SMS/800 TUTORIAL SESSIONS GET POSITIVE RESPONSE, MORE COMING - The positive response to the recent tutorial sessions on the Web-based Reporting System has prompted the offering of additional tutorial sessions in the coming months. Some upcoming sessions will again cover the use of the Web-based Reporting System; others will cover using the SMS/800 through Web-Based Access. COLLECTIONS POLICY UPDATED - The collections/disconnection policy has been updated, and Responsible Organizations are encouraged to check with their billing departments to ensure their SMS/800 accounts are up to date. PORT UP TO 500 NUMBERS TO ANOTHER RESP ORG AT ONCE - With SMS/800 Release 15.0, users gained the option of porting a set of multiple numbers to another Resp Org at one time. The new feature is available to both MGI users and to Web-Based Access (WBA) users. Users can type in a list of toll-free numbers, paste in a text list of toll-free numbers or import a file of toll-free numbers. Users can find the Multi-Dial Number Resp Org Change window from the Main Menu of the WBA under the System Automation Functions option. ...(More)

LEARN TO CREATE CUSTOM SMS/800 REPORTS VIA INTERNET - The SMS/800 Help Desk is providing free instructional sessions to teach users how to create and download reports using the SMS/800 Web-based Reporting System. The free instructional sessions use a combination of an interactive Internet demo and a voice conference call, held at Noon CDT on Sept. 17, Sept. 19, and Sept. 24. USERS NEED TO UPDATE VPN FOR SMS/800 WEB-BASED ACCESS - During the scheduled downtime on September 8, the SMS/800 development team made changes to the SMS/800 Web-based Access to simply firewall administration, and users will now need to update the site information in their VPN software to access the SMS/800 via the Internet. ...(More)

DISCONNECT DATE WITH NEW COLLECTIONS POLICY APPROACHING - The first disconnect date under the new SMS/800 collections/disconnection policy is approaching next week, and Responsible Organizations are encouraged to check with their accounts payable departments to ensure their SMS/800 accounts are up to date. The new policy was adopted to bring the SMS/800 more in line with industry norms, and many notices have been sent out as part of the transition to the new policy. PREVIEW SMS/800 RELEASE 15.0 NOW - Users can now preview SMS/800 Release 15.0 to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes and get a head start on using the new features. The preview period lasts through September 6, and Release 15.0 is scheduled for an official opening on September 28. The release will include 23 new screens for Web-Based Access (WBA) that will help bring all the functionality of direct dialup to WBA users. The new release will also include some user-requested enhancements designed to make the SMS/800 more functional and more user friendly. ...(More)
